A statement on the Reds’ official website confirms that personal terms have been agreed and the 29-year-old will be officially welcomed at Anfield when his contract at the Etihad expires on the first of next month.

The England international opted not to extend his career with the Citizens, and the club have allowed one of their most experienced players to move on. The former Aston Villa man has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup during his five years in Manchester – and will bring much needed experience to the Liverpool squad.

As an established player in Roy Hodgson’s senior Three Lions side, Milner could help fill the void left by departing Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.
