1) Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris Saint-Germain)

It might seem slightly ambitious, but rumours are rife that Liverpool are among the clubs chasing Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer, with the veteran Swede still one of the best in the world but available on the cheap at just £12m. He may be 33, but he’s surely better than Danny Ings could ever dream to be.

2) Theo Walcott (Arsenal)

Stalling on a new contract at Arsenal, Theo Walcott has been linked with a move to Liverpool and could arrive on the cheap if he moves as part of a swap deal involving Raheem Sterling, which might not be such a bad thing. Even without losing Sterling, Walcott would surely go for less than £20m, a very good price for a player of his calibre, who is effective out wide as well as up front.

3) Jackson Martinez (Porto)

Possibly moving for just £24m this summer, Porto striker Jackson Martinez looks a potential bargain after his amazing scoring record in Portugal. The Colombian is also wanted by Arsenal, but looks like he’d be a great fit at Anfield, and a class above Ings.

4) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

Despite a release clause of £32.5m, itself not the worst price in the world, Christian Benteke has been the subject of a £20m bid from Tottenham. It may well be that Aston Villa’s prolific and powerful Belgian will move for around that price this summer and he’d be much better for Liverpool than Ings.

5) Luciano Vietto (Villarreal)

Finally, Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for highly-rated Villarreal forward Luciano Vietto, who looks one of the best prospects in the world at the age of just 21, and who could move for around £18m.
