Luis Suarez and five other former Liverpool players that have left Anfield and won the Champions League since 2009

As Luis Suarez guided Barcelona to victory in the UEFA Champions League at the weekend, he became the sixth former Liverpool player to do so since 2009 and has therefore justified his decision to leave Anfield last summer.

Take a look at the other five former Reds stars that have also been crowned European champions since 2009:

Javier Mascherano – Barcelona (2011 & 2015)

The Argentina international has now won the European trophy twice since his departure from Liverpool 2010 as his first came during his debut season at the Camp Nou.

Mascherano played at centre-back in both final victories against Manchester United and Juventus in 2011 & 2015 respectively.

Fernando Torres & Raul Meireles – Chelsea (2012)

Much has been said about the decline of Torres since leaving Liverpool in January 2011 for a then British record fee of £50million.

Despite failing to hit the heights that made him one of the best strikers in the Premier League whilst on Merseyside, he still walked away with a Champions League medal in his first full season at Stamford Bridge.

His Portugese team-mate Meireles joined him in West London soon after and both celebrated beating Bayern Munich on penalties in 2012.

Xabi Alonso & Alvaro Arbeloa – Real Madrid (2014)

The Los Blancos pair were part of the squad that made history last season as they delivered ‘La Decima’ a 10th European title for the La Liga giants.

While Alonso was suspended from the final against local rivals Atletico, Arbeloa was an unused substitute as Madrid ran out 4-1 winners in the 2014 all-Spanish final.
