Arsenal fans are perhaps the most tortured in the summer transfer window, and here’s a look at five events we expect to wind up Gooners this year, including another of their former stars moving to a hated rival…

1) Jackson Martinez joining AC Milan

First up, Arsenal’s first big miss of the summer is almost complete as Porto striker Jackson Martinez’s move to AC Milan looks all but done. Why a struggling mid-table Serie A side is beating the Gunners to exactly the kind of forward they need is beyond us, but Arsene Wenger isn’t one to rush into deals, as fans will well know as the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Juan Mata slipped through their fingers in recent years.

2) Petr Cech joining Manchester United

Another absolutely ideal move for Arsenal that could be about go wrong – Manchester United have joined the running for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech. With David de Gea surely leaving for Real Madrid, the Red Devils will not mess up this chance to bring in this quality replacement on the cheap, while Arsenal dawdle again.

3) Alex Song moving to Chelsea

He wasn’t the best Arsenal player, but the sight of Alex Song, another former Emirates Stadium star, lining up alongside Cesc Fabregas in Chelsea’s midfield next season will be another bitter pill to swallow. How long before another bizarre Barcelona signing from Arsenal, Thomas Vermaelen, is joining one of Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri at their new clubs?

4) Alexandre Lacazette heading to Liverpool

Once again, a striker signing that seems to tick all the boxes – Alexandre Lacaztte scored 31 goals this season, is 23 and can still get better, and is available for around £35m. With Olivier Giroud clearly not quite good enough, this young Frenchman would be a superb buy, but just watch as he ends up moving to Liverpool instead, giving the Reds every chance of overtaking Arsenal in the table next season.

5) Theo Walcott getting a new big-money contract

The next Abou Diaby? Theo Walcott may have starred for Arsenal in their FA Cup final win over Aston Villa, but is he really deserving of his inevitable new contract with huge wages? The 26-year-old has spent most of the last two seasons out injured and should surely be sold now while the Gunners can still get some decent money for him.
