The England international has been out of action since picking up an injury in the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup quarter-final replay at Ewood Park in early April.

However, with the fixture list for the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League campaign released on Wednesday morning, Sturridge posted a message via his official Twitter account shortly after to update Liverpool fans on his current progress:

The Anfield outfit will face Stoke City away from home on the opening day and will be hoping to avenge the humiliating 6-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Potters on the final day of last season.

Barring a miracle in his recovery, Sturridge will not be available for the trip to the Britannia Stadium as he is set to return to full training with the rest of the squad in October after undergoing hip surgery in May [via Independent Sport].

His place in the starting XI could be under threat if new signing Danny Ings can hit the ground running early on.

Last season proved to be extremely disappointing for both Liverpool and Sturridge as he was plagued with numerous injuries throughout the campaign and limited him to just 12 appearances in the league.

He managed to find the back of the net five times in all competitions, with this strike against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the FA Cup the best of the lot.
