Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has named his ultimate dream XI, with no room for Gunners greats like Patrick Vieira or Thierry Henry, though one notable inclusion of a Chelsea great in this slightly controversial lineup…

GK: Manuel Neuer

Probably the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment, Manuel Neuer has been a huge player for Bayern Munich and Germany, winning all there is to win in the game.

DR: Cafu

Possibly the best right-back of all time, Brazil legend Cafu is selected by Coquelin for this role, having also been a major performer for World Cup and Champions League-winning sides.

DL: Roberto Carlos

One of the Galacticos at Real Madrid, Roberto Carlos is another former Brazil star who makes it into Coquelin’s dream XI in defence.

DC: Lilian Thuram

A French legend, Lilian Thuram is one of the best defenders of the modern era, and is an unsurprising selection by Coquelin at the back.

DC: Carles Puyol

Another legendary defender who won it all in a great career with Barcelona and Spain, Carles Puyol makes it into Coquelin’s team.

MC: Claude Makelele

Former Chelsea man Claude Makelele is a surprise selection ahead of former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, though the two have a similar playing style.

MC: Zinedine Zidane

Another French great and all-time favourite of most football fans, Zinedine Zidane is an unsurprising selection in midfield.

AMR: Lionel Messi

Currently the best player in the world and possibly the best ever, Barcelona star Lionel Messi takes a place in the attacking midfield roles.

AML: Ronaldinho

On the left is Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, who is another of the finest players of recent times, having starred for Barcelona and Brazil.

AMC: Diego Maradona

Just behind the main striker, Argentina legend Diego Maradona is widely considered to be the best player of all time and gets into Coquelin’s team.

FC: Ronaldo

Controversially ahead of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, Brazilian forward Ronaldo is the final selection by Coquelin in this dream team.
