As Arsenal reportedly close in on the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, a look back at some of the players they’ve had in goal in the Premier League era, with some real shockers showing just how much of a step up this move would be for the Gunners.

From worst to best…

10) Richard Wright

A dreadful signing back in 2001, Richard Wright did not play many games for Arsenal, but managed to look utterly hopeless whenever he did, making some high-profile errors leading directly to goals.

9) Manuel Almunia

Number one for Arsenal for far too long, Manuel Almunia has to go down as one of the worst number ones in the Premier League era, looking totally out of his depth at this level.

8) Vito Mannone

A backup goalkeeper for most of his time with Arsenal, Vito Mannone had one or two decent games but was on the whole far from good enough for the Gunners, and has also proven poor at new club Sunderland.

7) Lukasz Fabianski

Despite a bad start, Lukas Fabianski had a good end to his time with Arsenal, playing as their FA Cup goalkeeper and performing some penalty-saving heroics on their way to winning the competition in 2014.

6) Alex Manninger

Initially a very bright prospect, Alex Manniner didn’t quite do enough to replace David Seaman as Arsenal’s number one, despite shining during the England star’s time out injured in 1998.

5) John Lukic

A solid and reliable player, John Lukic had two spells at Arsenal and, whilst never being outstanding, never let the club down.

4) Wojciech Szczesny

A top goalkeeper on his day, Wojciech Szczesny has done well as Arsenal’s number one for the last few years, though he has not managed to convince everybody.

3) David Ospina

Brought in in Szczesny’s place this season, David Ospina enhanced his reputation in England with soeme fine displays, but it still looks like he’s going to be replaced next season.

2) David Seaman

An Arsenal legend, David Seaman maybe stayed on too long as number one for the Gunners, but played a key role in winning two doubles in 1998 and 2002.

1) Jens Lehmann

Probably the most talented goalkeeper Arsenal have had, Jens Lehmann also narrowly pips Seaman to the number one spot for his personality and leadership, keeping a record-breaking ten clean sheets in a row in the Champions League and forming part of the club’s famous Invincibles side.
