Five Arsenal players who will benefit from loan moves next season and follow in footsteps of Francis Coquelin

As the transfer window begins to heat up, much of the speculation surrounds in-comings and it’s sometimes forgotten that players have to make way.

Some players leave permanently in order to establish themselves elsewhere, while others go out on loan with hopes of catching the manager’s eye whilst away.

Francis Coquelin is a perfect example of the latter as he used his loan spell at Charlton last season to help establish himself in the Arsenal first team and he hasn’t looked back since.

Take a look at five other Gunners players who should be loaned out next season and could follow in the footsteps of the Frenchman:

Gedion Zelalem

The young American starlet was impressive at the FIFA U-20 World Cup this summer, with his tricks and flicks being shared around the world via social media.

Zelalem has already hinted he’d be open to a loan move [via Metro Sport] and a short-term switch would be beneficial as he is unlikely to oust the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil for a first team spot in midfield at the Emirates next season.

Carl Jenkinson

The England u-21 international spent last season on loan at West Ham, where he impressed many with his all action displays up and down the right-hand side.

With Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy ahead of Jenkinson in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium next season, a loan spell would be perfect as it would set him up nicely to challenge for a first team spot for the 2016/17 campaign.

Serge Gnabry

Injury denied the young German the opportunity to make a first team appearance for the Gunners last season and next year is vital for his progression.

Gnabry is currently away on international duty at the UEFA U-21 European Championships and a loan spell next season would enable him to build up his match fitness and get back to the level he was at before he was struck down with injury.

Calum Chambers

The former Southampton defender was frozen out of the first team picture towards the end of last season, mainly due to the high number of games he featured in at the start of the campaign.

He is now most likely regarded as the fourth choice centre-back option behind Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista, meaning he could find himself limited to just cup appearances next season.

Given his enormous potential, it would make sense to loan him out in order for him to fine-tune his game which would enable him to challenge for a regular spot at the heart of the Gunners defence upon his return.

Wojciech Szczesny

If reports in Mirror Sport are to be believed then Petr Cech will be the new number one at the Emirates Stadium next season and that immediately places the future’s of Szczesny and David Ospina in doubt.

It makes no sense to keep both of the latter two at the club as one would constantly find himself out of the match-day squad, which poses the question as to who needs the game time the most.

The Poland international, who was dropped for the league games following a poor performance against Southampton on New Years Day, does have the capability to become a top keeper and a loan spell would be the perfect platform for him to prove his quality and eradicate the costly mistakes from his game.
