Potential Arsenal 2015-16 XI with new signings included, featuring Chelsea’s Cech and Bundesliga winger

Arsenal do not appear to be rushing to complete any early summer transfer business; however, having signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona over the past two seasons, Arsene Wenger is certainly one to look out for in the coming weeks and months.

CaughtOffside have put together a potential Gunners XI for the 2015-16 campaign, including a possible new look attack and a world-class No.1 at the Emirates.

GK – Petr Cech

Speculation is rife that the Stamford Bridge veteran will step out at the Emirates Stadium next season after reportedly agreeing personal terms with Arsene Wenger’s side [via Sky Sports]. With question marks over the consistency of Wojciech Szczesny, Cech would be a huge signing from their London rivals.

RB – Hector Bellerin

The 20-year-old perhaps wasn’t expecting to be thrown into the Arsenal first-team last season; however, the youngster stepped up expertly to the pressure in north London and looks set to retain his position at right-back. An exciting long-term prospect for Arsene Wenger.

CB – Per Mertesacker

Question marks remain over the Germany international, particularly surrounding his desperately slow pace. Mertesacker, however, appears a favourite with his manager, and his leadership skills are crucial to the side.

CB – Laurent Koscielny

The Frenchman is one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League and is perhaps the most underrated centre-back in England’s top flight. Arsenal struggle when Koscielny isn’t in the starting XI; his absence through injury at the start of the season may have been key in the Gunners failing to challenge Chelsea further at the top of the table.

LB – Nacho Monreal

Nacho Monreal was one of the standout performers at left-back in England last season, and despite speculation suggesting he could return to La Liga, the defender could be poised to sign a new Emirates deal after expressing his desire to stay in north London [via ESPN].

CM – Jack Wilshere

Arsenal are rumoured to be readying a new deal that would see the England international double his current wages [via the Mirror], and Wenger will therefore expect a full season from the injury-plagued midfielder. His form has been impressive since his return to fitness – with his performance in an England shirt recently suggesting his confidence is high ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

CM – Aaron Ramsey

The Wales international struggled with injury – like many of his team-mates – last term, but a Wilshere-Ramsey partnership in midfield is the most exciting potential British duo in the Premier League. If the pair can remain fully fit all season, Arsenal could expect plenty of goals from the centre of the park.

CAM – Mesut Ozil

The former Real Madrid star has come under criticism from the British press during his two seasons at the Emirates; however, his composure and ability on the ball was key to the Gunners’ surge up the table in the second-half of the season. Wenger, nonetheless, will expect more than five domestic assists from the 26-year-old in the 2015-16 campaign.

RW – Alexis Sanchez

Arguably the signing of the season; the Chilean forward was outstanding in his first season in north London – taking no time to settle – and supporters are expecting the former Camp Nou star to get even better.

ST – Karim Benzema

Wenger is said to be a long-term admirer of the Real Madrid striker and dreams of making him his marquee signing this summer [via El Confidencial]. Benzema’s international team-mate Olivier Giroud could lure the forward to the Emirates but – if so – the 27-year-old will surely take his place in attack.

LW – Julian Draxler

The Schalke winger is rumoured to be eager on a switch to the Premier League – and Arsenal are leading the chase [via the Express]. There were suggestions that Wenger could hand the 21-year-old a central forward role if he signs this summer [via the Daily Mail]; however, the Gunners must surely be looking to sign an out-and-out striker, such as Benzema.
