Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech this summer as he heads to the Emirates Stadium for a medical today, with everything else thought to be finalised.

With a contract of £100,000 per week supposedly agreed, here’s a look at the Gunners’ top five earners…

5) Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere – £90k

Two midfield players with very differing levels of influence, it seems a bit unfair that Jack Wilshere earns the same amount as Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard was immense last season and surely deserves a pay rise, though it’s probably more the case that the England man should be on a much lower wage.

4) Petr Cech, Olivier Giroud – £100k

On the same money as Olivier Giroud, Petr Cech will be joint fourth highest earner at Arsenal with a £100,000 per week contract. This pay packet is almost the same as Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina combined.

3) Theo Walcott – £110k

Slightly above Cech and Giroud in third place, Theo Walcott is Arsenal’s third highest earner with a £110,000 per week contract, though that is another questionable one due to the amount of time he spends out injured.

2) Alexis Sanchez – £130k

Only second? Alexis Sanchez is certainly the star of this Arsenal team, but isn’t currently the highest earner the club, taking home £130,000 per week.

1) Mesut Ozil – £140k

Leading the way is £140,000 per week playmaker Mesut Ozil, who is also Arsenal’s most expensive signing ever, after joining from Real Madrid for £42.5m.
