With Manchester United being so strongly linked with a bid to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, here’s a look at five players who would be more worthwhile investments if the Red Devils are to raid the Bernabeu this summer…
1) Cristiano Ronaldo
A club legend at Manchester United, how much would fans love to see Cristiano Ronaldo back at Old Trafford? An ambitious target perhaps, but the Portuguese forward would arguably be a more worthwhile addition for Louis van Gaal’s side’s current needs.
2) Gareth Bale
Another world class attacking player, Gareth Bale has been linked several times with a move to United and would be a great fit in this current team, giving them a new dimension up front.
3) Luka Modric
A player linked many times with United, creative midfielder Luka Modric would be a superb signing and is just the player the Reds need to replace Paul Scholes in the long run.
4) Karim Benzema
A world class finisher, Karim Benzema is another Real Madrid player who’d be a great buy for United, with the Frenchman consistently showing himself to be one of the best in the world up top.
5) Raphael Varane
Arguably a better defender than Ramos, or at least one with more potential, Raphael Varane is another Madrid centre-back who could be a tremendously useful purchase for United this summer.
