Chelsea seem to be firmly in the market for a new signing up front this summer and have been linked with some big names, so here’s our ranking of the six main contenders from worst to best…

6) Charlie Austin (Queens Park Rangers)

A risky signing if Chelsea do get him, Charlie Austin has had just one season in the Premier League. Although he managed 18 goals with Queens Park Rangers, it remains to be seen if he could take that form to a bigger club with more pressure.

5) Radamel Falcao (AS Monaco)

After such a poor season on loan at Manchester United last year, Radamel Falcao looks another extremely risky signing for the Blues, even if it is also only on loan. The Colombian scored just four times for the Red Devils, and looks past his best form after looking like one of the best in the world prior to moving to England.

4) Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)

A top class youngster, Mauro Icardi had an outstanding season for Inter Milan last season and could be a decent buy for Chelsea, though there are some question marks over his attitude and discipline.

3) Aleksandar Mitrovic (Anderlecht)

Another young forward with a great future in the game, Aleksandar Mitrovic has an excellent scoring record with Anderlecht and has been compared with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It remains to be seen if he could do it in a more competitive league, though the Belgian giants have a good record of producing top talent.

2) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

A proven Premier League goalscorer, Christian Benteke is sure to leave Aston Villa this summer and has a release clause of a very reasonable £32.5m. A like-for-like replacement for Didier Drogba, the Belgian would fit in well into Jose Mourinho’s style of play and looks one of the club’s best targets.

1) Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

Undoubtedly the biggest talent in this list, Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette looks one of the best young attacking players in the world after a hugely prolific season in France last term. Valued at around £35m, the Frenchman could genuinely challenge Diego Costa for a starting spot if he makes the move to Stamford Bridge.
