Manchester United need a new striker – maybe even two – this summer and have been linked with a whole host of big names, so here’s our ranking of the six main targets by which one would be the best signing for the Red Devils, from worst to best…

6) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

A really overrated player who seems to bottle it in the big games, Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has been linked many times with a big-money move to Manchester United, with his club seemingly desperate to get rid of him. That tells you all you need to know about the wasteful Uruguayan.

5) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

A tad expensive for what he is, but of course few fans would complain if Christian Benteke were brought in from Aston Villa. The Belgian had another fine season, but is maybe a little limited and one-dimensional for the game United like to play under Louis van Gaal.

4) Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

A superb young prospect, Romelu Lukaku may not have had the best first season as a permanent signing at Everton, but the former Chelsea man remains one of the best up-and-coming talents in the game, even if he slightly struggled with expectation during his time at Stamford Bridge.

3) Harry Kane (Tottenham)

Linked with a £40m move to United, Tottenham sensation Harry Kane scoredc 31 goals in an incredible season last year and would no doubt be a superb buy for the Red Devils, even if he may still prove to be a one-season wonder. Still, given his consistency in finding the back of the net, the 21-year-old more likely looks the real deal.

2) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

One of the best strikers in the world, Karim Benzema has consistently done the business for Real Madrid in big and meaningful games, helping the club to a host of major honours in his time at the Bernabeu. Still, the Frenchman could be made available this summer and looks a bargain at just £35m.

1) Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)

Not strictly a striker, but still possibly the best goalscorer on this list, Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has been linked several times with United and is a favourite of manager Van Gaal, who introduced him into the Bayern first-team during his time at the club. A big-game player with plenty of intelligence and quality in the box, the German international would be absolutely superb in this United team.
