Manchester United are reportedly ready to table a second bid to sign Southampton defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin this summer, according to the Guardian.

The Red Devils have previously seen a bid of around £20m rejected by the Saints, according to the Daily Telegraph, though they are seemingly not giving up on bringing the Frenchman to Old Trafford this summer.

Schneiderlin enjoyed a superb season at the St Mary’s Stadium last term, looking like one of the best players in the Premier League in his position, and exactly like what the club need in that role.

Although Louis van Gaal brought in the likes of Ander Herrera and Daley Blind in midfield in last summer’s transfer window, it seems there is still something of a hole in the team, with Michael Carrick’s influence on the wane due to spending so much of the 2014/15 campaign injured, though performing very well when he was included in the starting lineup.

Schneiderlin could be the ideal signing to fill Carrick’s boots for United, and the Guardian claims the Reds will try their luck with a bid close to £25m, even if Southampton themselves are aiming to bring in more like £30m from the sale of the 25-year-old.

Still, the South Coast club do not have a great track record of keeping their best players, already losing Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool this summer, along with Luke Shaw to United last year, plus other big names like Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers.
