10 best defenders on the move this summer, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea targets

Players with only one year left on their contracts will be prime targets as a result, and here are nine of the best available according to talkSPORT. Manchester United should be worried, not one but two of their first team squad are near to the end of their deals.

9) Ezequiel Lavezzi, PSG

At 30-years-old the winger still has a few seasons at the top left in him, and could be well suited to the English game with his pace and direct running.

8) Robin van Persie, Manchester United

Ten goals in 29 appearances last time round despite several injuries, and the 31-year-old can surely play somewhere with a slower pace for a few more campaigns. Italy could be a good fit.

7) Pepe, Real Madrid

Still a key player at the Bernabeu, and with so many Premier League sides needing to shore up their defences it is surprising that none have been heavily linked to him yet.

6) Wesley Sneijder, Galatasaray

It was surprising when the midfielder went to Turkey in 2013 as it was expected he could still perform at the highest level. Could the 31-year-old now make a return to one of the big European leagues?

5) Samir Handanovic, Inter Milan

Was put to the test as the Nerazzurri struggled for much of last season, and came out with a heightened reputation. At 30-years-old isn’t young for a goalkeeper, and could be perfect for a regular Champions League playing side.

4) Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea

Possibly the best right-back in the world, it is surprising that the Blues haven’t offered one of their key players a new deal. Jose Mourinho will likely look to tie him down soon.

3) Bastian Schweinsteiger, Bayern Munich

With mixed signals coming from the Allianz Arena over the midfielder’s future, he could join up with former manager Louis van Gaal at Manchester United. The World Cup winner could be just what the Red Devils need to get back in to the mix for the Premier League title.

2) Zlatan Ibrahimovic, PSG

Brilliant even at 33-years-old, but could be moved on to make room for Edinson Cavani at the Parc des Princes. Will be a great signing if anyone can entice him away and afford his huge wages.

1) David De Gea, Manchester United

Possibly the most important player to his team in the top flight, losing him would be a massive blow to United. However, with it looking like the 24-year-old has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid it could only be a matter of time before he departs.
