Manchester United made a number of major changes to their squad last summer and worked their way back into the Premier League top four, so here are five more weak links that manager Louis van Gaal could ship out, plus five suggested replacements…

1) Jonny Evans

A liability at the back, Jonny Evans has not fulfilled his potential at Old Trafford and it is time for him to be shown the door this summer amid rumours linking him with a move to West Bromwich Albion.

Suggested replacement: Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

2) Angel Di Maria

Perhaps not suited to English football or perhaps the latest big name to fall out with Louis van Gaal, but Angel Di Maria just hasn’t found form yet for United and could be improved upon this summer.

Suggested replacement: Kevin De Bruyne (Wolfsburg)

3) Rafael

Another player once regarded highly as a youngster, Rafael has not become the player United had hoped and no longer looks part of the first-team setup at the club.

Suggested replacement: Matteo Darmian (Torino)

4) Robin van Persie

Past his peak now, it does look like Robin van Persie will be sold to Fenerbahce this summer after holding talks with the Turkish giants, and there’s no doubt the Red Devils could do better up front.

Suggested replacement: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

5) Luke Shaw

A big disappointment since moving to Old Trafford last summer, Luke Shaw looks an overrated English youngster who is certainly not ready to be first choice for United at the moment.

Suggested replacement: Ricardo Rodriguez (Wolfsburg)
