The Villains have already dipped into the French market this summer, signing Idrissa Gueye for £9 million from LOSC Lille [The Guardian], and now look like returning for Amavi.

According to L’Equipe, Villa have offered a contract to the young full-back, who will see his contract multiply three times should he swap the Allianz Arena for Villa Park.

Tim Sherwood is set for a busy summer, and while Fabian Delph [BBC] and Christian Benteke have been linked with a move away from the club, Emmanuel Adebayor has been linked with a move to Birmingham in exchange for the Belgian hitman [Mirror].

Villa are set to face competition from Arsenal for the left-back, with the Gunners also reported to be keen on the talented 21-year-old [Daily Mail].

Atletico Madrid and Olympique Lyonnais have both also been linked with a move for the defender [L’Equipe].

Amavi was one of the key performers in the French top flight last season, making 36 appearances for Claude Puel’s troubled Aiglons. He also contributed four assists, and has demonstrated both his competency as a defender and his ability to be a menacing offensive weapon.

Particularly impressive, is Amavi’s reading of the game, where he often shows up much more experienced campaigners with his excellent intuition, positioning and movement. No player in Ligue 1 averaged more interceptions-per-game than Amavi last term.

Amavi is eligible for both France and Togo.
