The right-back joins another new addition, Memphis Depay, while Bastian Schweinsteiger looks set to join the pair, with Bayern Munich having thanked the legendary midfielder for his services to the club.

However, while Louis van Gaal is clearly keen on signing the players to transform the Red Devils’ fortunes, he is also looking to clear the decks of the dead wood.

Nani has already left for Fenerbahce, and here are five other players to follow the Portugal international out of the door.

Jonny Evans
The centre-back has been heavily linked with a departure, with both Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion keen on his services.

27-year-old Evans has been a fine servant to the club, but van Gaal’s interest in the likes of Sergio Ramos, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi surely spells the end.

Rafael
The right-back looks likely to be the main casualty from Matteo Darmian’s arrival from Torino, and it would be little surprise to see Rafael’s long association with Old Trafford come to an end.

Galatasaray, Napoli and Fiorentina have all been linked to his signature.

Robin van Persie
Nani has pleased with Robin van Persie to join him in Istanbul, and the move looks imminent.

The ex-Arsenal star has declined rapidly over the last two years, and was a shadow of his former self last term.

The striker is closing in on a move to Fenerbahce, with a deal expected to be announced shortly.

David De Gea
While Louis van Gaal may well be happy to see the other players listed here shown the door at Old Trafford, he would surely be desperate to keep hold of De Gea.

However, with Real Madrid having confirmed the departure of Iker Casillas, expect the Merenges to increase their efforts in trying to bring the 24-year-old to the Bernabeu.

Adnan Januzaj
Januzaj arguably regressed last term, as the opportunities that came his way under David Moyes steadily dried up.

The forward’s career is in danger of stalling under van Gaal, and a loan season away from the club may be a good move for all parties.

Everton have been linked.
