Chelsea clear out: Blues could offload five this summer, including former Barcelona midfielder

Chelsea transfer news – five to leave in Stamford Bridge cull?

Chelsea could be about to offload five players in this summer’s transfer window, with reports from the Daily Star that Jose Mourinho wants to get rid of some unwanted squad players.

The Premier League champions have incredible depth in their first-team, so much so that most of these five names don’t look anywhere close to being involved in the starting lineup on a regular basis for the season ahead.

Some of these players have been largely sent out on loan during their Chelsea careers so far, and may find they are doing so again this season, while others may be sold permanently.

The Star claims that these five players are as follows:

1) Juan Cuadrado

Signed from Fiorentina in January, Juan Cuadrado has struggled to meet expectations at Chelsea so far, as he barely featured in the Premier League in the second half of last season. The Colombian international previously impressed in Serie A and has been linked with a loan move to Inter Milan this summer, according to talkSPORT.

2) Oriol Romeu

A former Barcelona youngster whom Chelsea had high hopes for, things have not quite worked out for Oriol Romeu. The 23-year-old has made only 33 appearances for the Blues, and has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Valencia, and then Stuttgart. The Star now say that Leicester City could be interested in him.

3) Mohamed Salah

Loaned out to Fiorentina last season, the Daily Mail claim that Mohamed Salah now looks set to join another Serie A side in AS Roma this summer, having failed to break into the first-team since his move from FC Basel in January 2014. Given the competition for places in the Chelsea attack, it is perhaps not surprising that the Egyptian international has struggled, though he has shown some glimpses of superb form during his time in Italy so far.

4) Patrick Bamford

An impressive young striker who caught the eye on loan at Middlesbrough last season, the Star claims that Patrick Bamford is another Chelsea backup player who could be on the way out and that he could have Premier League offers on the table this summer.

5) Nathan Ake

Finally, the Star mentions Blues youngster Nathan Ake as another player who looks unlikely to feature in the club’s plans for the season ahead, with Leicester eyeing him up along with Romeu.
