Manchester United vs. Barcelona predicted XI: De Gea RETURNS while CRITICISED Schweinsteiger is OUT

Manchester United take on Barcelona in their third game of their pre-season tour of the United States, as they hope to maintain their unbeaten summer form.

The Red Devils are set to recall David De Gea to line up, who is now injury free – and Louis van Gaal will likely continue to field a strong XI – similar to that which could begin the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, who was criticised by Louis van Gaal for his performance against San Jose Earthquakes, is expected to miss the clash with a minor injury.

The clash kicks off on Saturday at 9pm at Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium.

We’ve put together a potential 4-3-3 that the Dutchman may start in the States…

GK – David De Gea

David De Gea is poised to make his first appearance of pre-season, and will surely be met with a huge reception following continued Real Madrid speculation, as van Gaal looks set to keep his No.1.

RB – Matteo Darmian

Van Gaal confirmed that the Italy international would replace Valencia at right-back, and the former Torino defender is set to be handed another start to settle into his new United role.

CB – Chris Smalling

The England international was impressive last season, and may be ahead of Phil Jones in the pecking order.

CB – Daley Blind

Van Gaal has hinted that his compatriot could be his regular ‘left-footed central defender‘ next season, with the former Netherlands manager hinting that this defensive position is still being examined this summer.

LB – Luke Shaw

The former Southampton star has been public in admitting that his fitness has not been up to scratch in Manchester, and he’ll therefore be looking for maximum playing time during pre-season.

RCM – Michael Carrick

The 33-year-old’s struggles with injury last season was a huge blow to the Red Devils last term, yet he could still be set to settle into a midfield trio alongside the club’s two latest signings.

CM – Ander Herrera

With Schweinsteiger expected to sit out the blockbuster clash with Barca, the Spaniard could get the nod, and will be keen to impress following the arrival of the German and Schneiderlin.

LCM – Morgan Schneiderlin

The Frenchman scored on his debut, and certainly looks to have added a much needed physical presence to United’s midfield.

RW – Juan Mata

The Red Devils playmaker is perhaps at his best in a No.10 role; however, the majority of his nine goals came from the right flank last season and there are few better crossers of the ball.

ST – Wayne Rooney

With two midfielders having been signed, the England international looks set to return to his favoured role as the leading centre-forward.

LW – Memphis Depay

The Dutchman scored 22 league goals in a wide role last season and got off the mark for the Red Devils in their second game of pre-season.
