Top five Arsenal failed youth projects, including departing goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny & JOKE striker

Five players who didn’t earn Wenger’s faith.

A look at Arsenal’s top five failed youth projects under Arsene Wenger, including Polish goalkeepr Wojciech Szczesny as he nears a move to AS Roma…

1) Wojciech Szczesny

Trusted to be number one from a very young age, Wojciech Szczesny still looks like he needs to mature elsewhere before he can really handle that job, though in truth his loan to Roma will surely become permanent after he has almost definitely failed to make the grade at Arsenal.

2) Nicklas Bendtner

A regular in the Arsenal team for many years, Nicklas Bendtner never looked as good as he thought he was, and it took almost as long for the Gunners to shift him after two failed loan spells. The Dane is now with Wolfsburg and has become a bit of a cult hero among the club’s fans.

3) Denilson

Despite looking decent as a youngster, Brazilian midfielder Denilson is another who was given too much responsibility and playing time too soon in Wenger’s side, struggling to deal with playing so many games and clearly losing his confidence. Denilson was eventually flogged off back to Brazil after really losing his way.

4) Abou Diaby

Injured back in 2006, Abou Diaby never looked the same for Arsenal, but somehow remained with the club until this summer, despite barely ever playing. Decent when fit, but surely not worth waiting around for for so long?

5) Emmanuel Eboue

Like Bendtner, a real laughing stock of a player, Emmanuel Eboue was not at all good enough for a club of Arsenal’s size, but lasted six years as part of Wenger’s first-team.
