Linked many times with a move to Manchester United, Real Madrid star Gareth Bale could be an ideal big name to fill Rooney’s boots up front, and he is expected to move into a central position for Real this season.
2) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
Another big-name striker possibly leaving Real Madrid, Karim Benzema has been linked with United many times in the past and also with Arsenal this summer, though he should definitely be brought in to replace Rooney at Old Trafford.
3) Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
One of the best finishers in the world, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowksi would be another superb marquee signing to start a new post-Rooney era at United.
4) Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)
Another of Bayern’s best players, Thomas Muller could be a superb addition at Old Trafford to give United what Rooney used to provide in the big games.
5) Mario Gotze (Bayern Munich)
Not strictly a striker, but Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze is another top class star from the Allianz Arena who could be offloaded before long, with United keeping an eye on his situation.
6) Harry Kane (Tottenham)
In outstanding form in front of goal last season, Tottenham’s Harry Kane looks a great fit for United and has been linked with a £40m move to the club at times this summer.
7) Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
A wilcard option, but United have raided Arsenal for their star player before by bringing in Robin van Persie, and Alexis Sanchez is another world class forward who’d be absolutely ideal to replace Rooney, even if he’d surely be incredibly expensive.
