Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, and Fernandinho were enough to see off the Stamford Bridge outfit. The Blues’ back line was also unable to deal with the attacking pace of Raheem Sterling and Jesus Navas, showing up their ageing defence.
Having drawn against Swansea City in the first game of the season, the London side have made a terrible start to the campaign. With rivals Arsenal also winning against Crystal Palace on the same day, this could be a pivotal moment even though the campaign is only a week old.
Here is how the players matched up…
GK) Asmir Begovic, 8
One of the only players to come out of the game with any credit, the ‘keeper stopped the scoreline from being any more embarrassing.
RB) Branislav Ivanovic, 2
Was torn apart by Raheem Sterling throughout the match, looking a shell of the player he was last season.
LB) Cesar Azpilicueta, 6
Started off poorly, but was able to get himself together while those around him were failing.
CB) John Terry, 3
Looked completely off the pace before being taken off, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was substituted for a poor performance rather than an injury.
CB) Gary Cahill, 4
Not much better than his captain, and was taken apart by Aguero throughout.
