Champions League predictions: Tough starts for Arsenal & Man City, but Man Utd & Chelsea to win

Champions League predictions for the opening games of the group stage.

Champions League predictions for Premier League clubs in the first week of the competition, with Arsenal and Manchester City facing tough ties…

PSV 1-2 Manchester United

A tough away game for Manchester United, though one feels they have the quality to earn an away victory here. Memphis Depay will be up against the club he left in the summer, and will have a point to prove against a likely hostile crowd. Impressive against Liverpool at the weekend, the Red Devils will face a different kind of challenge here, but should have the quality in attack to prove too much for the Dutch champions.

Manchester City 1-1 Juventus

Up against last season’s finalists, Manchester City may have to settle for a draw in this big game against Juventus. The Italian giants have quality players like Paul Pogba in their ranks and will have the confidence to grab a point or more against a City side that so often struggles to look its best in Europe.

Chelsea 3-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

Against inferior opposition, Chelsea should finally get back to winning ways as they start their Champions League campaign. The Blues were poor in almost every area against Everton, but one feels that surely can’t continue as they meet Israeli minnows Maccbai Tel Aviv. With ambitions to win this competition, Chelsea will look to get off to a convincing start and a 3-0 win or perhaps an even bigger margin doesn’t look out of the question.

Dinamo Zagreb 1-1 Arsenal

A winnable game, but there’s no doubt Dinamo Zagreb have it in them to give Arsenal a bit of a shock. The Gunners are serial under-achievers in Europe and have not been at their free-flowing best so far this season, winning games by narrow margins in the Premier League despite not yet coming up against particularly top opposition. Zagreb have some good players and Arsenal may end up feeling a point in this match is not too bad.
