Chelsea & Man United in transfer war for £57.3m La Liga superstar

Coming off a 22-goal season, few forwards are hotter than Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann. Naturally, two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, both of whom are struggling to find the net, have set their sights on him – regardless of the price.

According to the Metro, Manchester United have joined Chelsea in pursuit of the 24-year-old Frenchman. Although Griezmann reportedly turned down an offer to move to Chelsea this past summer, United manager Louis van Gaal does not appear willing to give the Blues another bite of the apple.

The Metro reported that Griezmann has a £57.3 million release clause in his contract, which is within the means of Man United & Chelsea but would fall just short of the Premier League record £59.7 million spent on Angel Di Maria in 2014.

Griezmann finished third in La Liga with his 22 goals last season, tied with Neymar. His performance earned La Liga Team of the Season honors. Griezmann has made at least 34 league appearances in each of his last six seasons dating back to his time with Real Sociedad.
