Jack Wilshere injury: Arsenal star calls latest sideline spell ‘toughest to take’

It has been a rough year for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who has yet to see the field in the 2015-16 season after making fewer than two dozen appearances for the club all of last season. Yet of all of the career-shortening injuries he’s faced in his career, the boisterous 23-year-old is calling his latest injury the toughest.

In an interview with Arsenal.com, Wilshere stated that his recovery from a hairline fracture is going well and that he is working as hard as he can to return to the team.

“It’s going well,” Wilshere said. “I’m working as hard as I can to try to come back. I know what it takes because unfortunately I’ve been injured a few times in my career and I know what it takes to come back. I’m not going to rush it. I’ll make sure my body’s right and at the moment I’m feeling good.”

The English midfielder suffered a stress fracture ankle injury back in the 2011-12 pre-season and missed the entire season, including the 2012 Olympics and England’s Euro 2012 campaign. His 2012-13 season ended with minor surgery and he suffered a foot injury at the end of the 2013-14 season.

“Mentally this one has been the toughest to take because I had a big injury last year, came back, got myself fit, back in good form, played for England.

“Then I cut my holiday short for two weeks and came in to try and get myself right for this season.

“I thought, ‘This season I need to be fit for the whole season and go into the Euros with a whole season behind me’.”

Wilshere is one of a litany of midfielders Arsenal have lost to injury this season, including Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain along with several reserves.
