Chelsea transfer news: Four stars tipped for axe as Jose Mourinho plans January clear out

Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified four star players who he would be willing to offload in order to fund an overhaul at strugglers Chelsea.

The Blues defeated Norwich City at the weekend thanks to a Diego Costa effort, but they remain mired in the bottom half of the Premier League. After 13 matches, the Blues find themselves in 15th place, having won only four matches, lost seven and amassed only 14 points.

While Mourinho’s side are only five points off the relegation zone, they are a whopping 12 points behind Arsenal and the Champions League places.

As such, the Portuguese coach is willing to shake things up in order to transform his side’s fortunes.

The Daily Star report that Diego Costa, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Nemanja Matic are the four high-profile stars that Mourinho would axe in order to raise the funds to bring in the players he wants to sign.

The English tabloid name Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid, West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino, Paris Saint-Germain hitman Edinson Cavani and Michy Batshuayi of Belgium and Olympique de Marseille as the player Mourinho is eyeing to transform the Blues’ miserable campaign.

The last of these four, in particular, may be tough to acquire.

Batshuayi confirmed this weekend that he sees his future at Marseille according to Telefoot [as per Le 10 Sport], and it remains to be seen whether the Blues would be willing to meet OM’s £35 million asking price [Mirror].
