Van Gaal lines up £50 million bid for legendary Dutch winger

Louis Van Gaal is proving that he’s not afraid to spend some serious money, with reports now emerging that the £50 million rated Arjen Robben is top of his shopping list in January.

According to the Metro, the club are ready to shell out a mammoth £49.6 million to get their man, with the winger keen to leave Bayern Munich after struggling to get back in the starting eleven following a spell on the sidelines with injury.

Robben would undoubtedly add a new dimension to Van Gaal’s side. Although the Dutchman has turned them into a tough side to beat, there has been frustration in the terraces with the side’s attacking prowess. 31 year old Robben’s direct and pacey approach would re-establish some excitement and unpredictability to the final third.

Despite Robben’s interest in a move, and United’s willingness to force a deal though, it remains to be seen whether or not Pep Guardiola would be happy to entertain a deal.

For Van Gaal, it would be a risk free transfer – he and Robben have worked together several times during their careers, most recently in the last World Cup when Van Gaal was in charge of the Dutch national side.
