Aaron Ramsey goal video: Aston Villa torn apart as Ozil’s unselfishness shows why he hardly ever scores

Confused as to why a player of Mesut Ozil’s outstanding quality has only scored a lousy two Premier League goals this season? Here is why…

The German playmaker’s unselfishness was there for all to see as he laid on Aaron Ramsey for Arsenal’s second goal against Aston Villa this afternoon.

A slick counter-attack which started with Ramsey winning the ball inside his own half presented Ozil with a brilliant chance to score himself as he ran through towards Brad Guzan’s goal.

But the World Cup winner loves to supply rather than score, and he generously squared for Ramsey to convert on 38 minutes, adding to Olivier Giroud’s eighth-minute opener from the penalty spot.

Ozil now has 13 Premier League assists this season – more than twice as many as anybody else in the division – and is fast approaching Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s record for 20 in a season.

Should the Gunners close out what now seems to be an inevitable victory over rock-bottom Villa in the Midlands, they will climb to the top of the table. They largely have Ozil’s creativity to thank for that.
