Man United loan recall set for first-team spot at forward

Outside of summer pickup Anthony Martial, the Red Devils have not received any outstanding contributions from their forwards for the majority of the season. As a result, Louis van Gaal plans to reach into Manchester United‘s depth to try and get a young forward to give the team a boost. The target he has identified is Will Keane, fresh off a loan spell in the lower divisions.

According to the Metro, the 22-year-old forward has been recalled from Preston North End to take a place on the Red Devils’ first team. Man United Under-21 coach Tommy Martin confirmed the plan to the source.

‘That’s the idea of him coming back from Preston,’ Martin said.

‘That hopefully he’ll be involved with the first team more than the Under-21s.’

Keane has just one appearance with the Man United first team – a substitution for Rafael in 2011 during a Premier League loss to Blackburn Rovers. He has taken on loan spells with Wigan Athletic, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and most recently Preston North End.

Last year with Sheffield Wednesday, Keane scored four goals in 13 appearances. This year he has one goal in 20 appearances.
