Arsenal complete transfer raid of key asset from title rivals

Arsenal have completed the signing of Leicester City‘s head of technical scouting Ben Wrigglesworth.

According to the Telegraph—who first reported the story in mid-December—the  Gunners have completed a deal to bring to scouting expert to the Emirates Stadium.

Wrigglesworth, who is currently on gardening leave, is set to join the north London giants in the coming weeks.

He ought to be a valuable asset for the Gunners, and the fruits of his labour at Leicester—where the broadsheet notes, he has been responsible for signing talents such as N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez—could help Arsene Wenger unearth some transfer gems.

While Nigel Pearson and Claudio Ranieri have rightly received much criticism for the Foxes’ remarkable form in 2015 and the early portion of 2016, Wrigglesworth certainly deserves his fair share of the praise, with the Telegraph identifying him as the man to have contributed to the signing of key men such as N’Golo Kante, who arrived from Stade Malherbe Caen during the summer, and Riyad Mahrez, who was brought to the King Power Stadium from Le Havre in 2014.

The former has been a revelation in his first campaign in the Premier League—and currently leads the Premier League stats chart for interceptions per match—while Mahrez has bagged 13 goals and seven assists so far this campaign.

Indeed, it’s not too much of a stretch to suggest that Wrigglesworth, whose scouting work has brought such fine talents to the East Midlands, has been a key contributor in Leicester’s unlikely title chase.
