Real Madrid finally confirm Gareth Bale as world’s most expensive player – deal pushes Ronaldo relationship to breaking point

Spanish giants Real Madrid have finally confirmed that forward Gareth Bale is the world’s most expensive player, The Sun reports.

There had been some confusion as to the actual fee of the deal, with many claiming that the cost was played down as to appease Cristiano Ronaldo, who had been the club’s previous record breaker.

Real have often denied that Bale cost £86m, but now that the numbers have been revealed, there are concerns that it could push Ronaldo closer to the exit door at the Bernabeu.

The Sun states: “Real agreed to pay an up-front fee of €99,743,542, plus a “solidarity fee” of €1,015,875, adding to a total of €100,759,417.”

“At that time, £1 was worth €1.1724, confirming Real paid £85,942,866.”

Bale’s “official” fee was £78.12m, but the cash was paid up in seven stages and has since rises above the £80m that Madrid paid Manchester United for Ronaldo back in 2009.
