Chelsea defender reveals he wants to emulate legendary midfielder at Manchester United

Chelsea defender Todd Kane has revealed that he is keen on emulating Ryan Giggs‘s Manchester United career…but at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old was born in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, but has spent his entire career on Chelsea’s books, having joined the club as a youth player in 2001.

However, despite his advancing years, the right-back is yet to establish himself at Stamford Bridge, and is yet to make a first-team outing for the Pensioners.

He’s spent considerable time out on loan, featuring for the likes of Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, impressing at Rovers particularly as he continues to learn his trade.

The former England U-19 defender is currently out on loan in the Netherlands with Eredivisie, where he is honing his craft with NEC Nijmegen as he looks to establish himself with the Blues.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Goal, the defender has revealed that he’s still confident of enjoying a long career with the Pensioners, but rather than identifying John Terry as the player he’s keen to emulate, he’s name-checked another Premier League great as his inspiration.

“I don’t just want to play one or two games for Chelsea,” the defender began. “If they offered me a 10-year contract, I’d take it now. I support Chelsea, I’ve been there a long time, my whole family is from the area – it’s the ultimate goal.

“What you saw with Ryan Giggs at Manchester United, that’s what I want to be at Chelsea,” he continued.

“A lot of clubs are interested. Clubs came in for me in January, but I had a talk with Chelsea. Everything has gone well here [at NEC] and I don’t want to change that.

“I signed for NEC for a year and I’m not the type of person to go against his word, even though the clubs that were interested were very big and it’d be nice to play there.

“I could have gone but I felt that at this time in my career, I should just keep going. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.”
