Liverpool get green light for top Turkish defender

Fenerbahce left-back Caner Erkin has been one of Turkey’s best players for the better part of a decade, but he has yet to play for a top-five league despite significant experience in European football. He may get his chance soon though, as Liverpool have set their sights on Erkin and could seal the deal for him in the summer.

According to Turkish-football.com, Erkin has expressed interest in playing for a major European club and Liverpool have been given the all-clear to sign the 27-year-old Fenerbahce superstar. The Reds are believed to be the front-runners for Erkin.

“Like every Turkish player Caner would like to play for a top European club,” Erkin’s agent Batur Altiparmak said.

Per the source, Everton and Inter Milan have also expressed interest in Erkin.

Erkin has 16 goals in five seasons and 211 total games for Fenerbahce. His tenure in Turkey has also included two Super Lig titles, two Turkish Cups and a Turkish Super Cup.

Since 2006, Erkin has been capped 42 times for Turkey and has two goals for his country.
