It was a welcoming return to form for Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, who finally ended his season-long goal drought in a dominating 4-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth. Cesc Fabregas could not be denied a leading role in the performance as he recorded not one, not two but three assists for Hazard, Pedro and Willian during the win.
Pedro got the scoring started quickly, flicking the ball in at the 5′ mark for an early lead.
Midway through the first half, the longest scoring drought of Eden Hazard’s career came to an end with this superb goal that was reminiscent of his 2014-15 MVP campaign.
Though Bournemouth added a goal a minutes after Hazard’s it would be the only goal they would score all game as the Chelsea defence held firm in the second half. The same could not be said of the Cherries defence though.
Willian added his name to the scoring chart at 71′ to double the Blues lead once more, and Hazard finished the game off in stoppage time with his second goal of the game – and first multi-goal game in any competition in over a year.
If Hazard and Fabregas really have returned to their dominant form, the Blues will sorely need them as they face No. 2 Tottenham Hotspur and No. 1 Leicester City over the next two weeks.
