Transfer done deal: Liverpool beat two fiercest rivals to sign defender on three-year contract

Liverpool have reportedly signed 16-year-old defender Diego Lattie after his release by Manchester City.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Lattie has signed a three-year deal at Anfield after the Reds beat off competition from several Premier League clubs including fiercest rivals Manchester United and Everton.

The Echo adds that Liverpool were aware of Lattie from several years of coming up against him at youth level, and quickly made their move for him after learning that City had not offered him a new contract.

The teenage right-back had been in the City setup since the age of nine, but he was a boyhood Liverpool fan. He is now training with the Under-16 squad and will be promoted to the Under-18s in pre-season.

Lattie is a very promising England Under-17s international, making his debut at that level against Italy last August, and will not cost the Reds any money in the form of compensation, the Echo understands.
