Chelsea see £40m bid for Portugal superstar rejected, rivals may offer more

Either Chelsea will have to give up on Andre Gomes or they may need to reach deeper into that wallet to get him after their latest bid for the Valencia midfielder.

According to the Daily Mirror, Valencia have rejected a bid of £40 million from Chelsea for Andre Gomes. Per the source, Manchester United and Juventus have also expressed interest in the young star, and Valencia are holding out for an even better offer from other prospective buyers.

The 22-year-old midfielder had one of his most productive seasons to date, scoring a career-high five goals in 41 appearances for Valencia in the 2015-16 season.

Gomes has also been a key man for Portugal in Euro 2016, appearing in four of Portugal’s five matches so far and recording the assist in the team’s 1-1 draw against Iceland.

Chelsea struggled to get production out of their midfield this past season, as Oscar, Eden Hazard, Pedro and Alexandre Pato all failed to make a significant impact for the team en route to a 10th-place finish in the Premier League.
