Arsenal have entered the race for Lille defender Djibril Sidibe according to the L’equipe.

The report claims that the Gunners have expressed an interest in the 23-year-old defender over the last 48 hours.

The same report also states that Monaco were close to agreeing a transfer for the Lille defender.

Arsenal’s move is reported to have complicated the deal Monaco had in place and that the Gunners could end up beating the Ligue 1 side for the signature of the France U-21 player.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is reported to have made the transfer of Sidibe a priority as the North London based outfit look to strengthen defensively over these summer.

Sidibe was signed by Lille back in 2012 and has scored time times in 96 league appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.

The 23-year-old is a versatile defender who can play on the right and left side of defence but he does have another three-years remaining on his contract.
