Real Madrid transfer news: La Liga giants close to signing Euro 2016 star after £40m Chelsea bid fails

Eight chances created in five games for Portugal at Euro 2016.

Three goals scored and 27 key passes made in 30 La Liga appearances for Valencia during the 2015-16 season.

Andre Gomes boasts some pretty impressive stats.

Those stats have seemingly impressed Real Madrid.

According to Fichajes, Real are “very close” to signing the 22-year-old Euro 2016 champion.

Fichajes claim that Real see Gomes in their squad next season, but that the Champions League winners are keen to get Valencia to lower their €65m (£54.19m) asking price.

Chelsea have also been linked with an interest in Gomes in recent days, with The Mirror reporting last week that the Blues had a bid of around £40m rejected.

Gomes can play either in the centre of midfield or on the left flank.

His main assets are his physical strength, stamina, dribbling skills and impressive passing range.

Gomes is also good at set-pieces. Willian is Chelsea’s current dead-ball specialist, but – as a left-footer – Gomes could provide a useful alternative.
