Georginio Wijnaldum transfer: Liverpool agree £25m fee for Tottenham target

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a £25m deal with Newcastle United for Georginio Wijnaldum.

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle have accepted a bid from the Reds for the Netherlands international midfielder, who scored 11 goals in his debut Premier League season as the Magpies were relegated.

Sky Sports understands that 25-year-old Wijnaldum will now travel to Merseyside for a medical and to finalise personal terms ahead of becoming Liverpool’s fifth major signing of the summer.

Jurgen Klopp has already added defender Joel Matip, goalkeeper Loris Karius and winger Sadio Mane to his squad, and yesterday brought in centre-back Ragnar Klavan from German club Augsburg.

As Sky Sports reports, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur had been interested in the Dutchman, but were not as willing to meet Newcastle’s valuation, which allowed Liverpool a free run at the player.

Liverpool, who beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 last night, have travelled to America for the latest part of their pre-season preparations, and Wijnaldum may join them in California once the deal is done.
