UEFA are evidently looking forward to Champions League football returning next week, but did they just troll Manchester United?
The Red Devils will be absent from Europe’s premier competition this season after finishing fifth under Louis van Gaal in the Premier League last year.
That in turn will see them compete for the Europa League this time round with Jose Mourinho now at the helm, and unsurprisingly their failure to finish in the top four saw them come under fire from rival supporters who were quick to mock their downfall.
One of the organisations that probably weren’t expected to be on that list was UEFA though, who tweeted about Champions League football returning next week, only to use an image of Old Trafford to make their point.
Numerous supporters were quick to notice and took issue with the choice of photography. Now this has to be an innocent mistake, but while debate will go on over whether or not they meant it and whether or not it’s funny, the fact remains that Old Trafford will not be seeing Champions League football this year and they’re definitely rubbing salt into the wound.
