Tottenham’s Champions League campaign has gotten off to a disastrous start following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Monaco.

The game was played at the Wembley stadium due to redevelopments at White Hart Lane. The defeat was made worse seeing that Tottenham drew record crowds for their clash with the Ligue 1 giants.

Tottenham shared a picture on their official Instagram page stating that the game drew a capacity 85,011 crowd.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were a goal down after just 15 minutes when Bernardo Silva found the back of the net. Thomas Lemar made matters worse for Tottenham when he doubled the visitors lead 16 minutes later.

Toby Alderweireld looked to have given Tottenham hope when he scored shortly before the break however, Spurs were unable to find the equaliser in the second half.

Tottenham take on Sunderland this weekend in the Premier League. The Black Cats are yet to win a game this season under manager David Moyes.
