Liverpool chase obscure winger to help title bid

Liverpool’s strong run has carried them from the start of the season with very few issues, and after a slight blip against a resilient Southampton side in yesterday’s 0-0 draw, Jurgen Klopp is apparently already looking ahead to add some fresh momentum to his team in January.

The Mirror has linked the Reds with Spartak Moscow’s Quincy Promes, a name which will likely be pretty unknown to most readers.

The Dutch winger is apparently Klopp’s number one target to bring in to a squad which has just lost Danny Ings for the season, and is about to lose Sadio Mane for a month due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Promes looks like the ideal backup for Liverpool’s potent attacking trident. Able to play anywhere along the front line, Promes would provide capable backup for Firmino, Coutinho and Mane.

The 25 year old has 36 goals in 71 games for his Russian employers, so clearly the false 9 role required of him at Liverpool won’t be too much of a shock.
