Golden Shoe rankings: Dortmund star leads the way and you won’t believe who the highest ranked Englishman is

The current standings in the race for the ESM Golden Shoe have been revealed by KeirRadnedge, and there’s more than a few surprises.

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is leading the way with 32 points thanks to the 16 times he has found the back of the net in the Bundesliga this campaign.

The Premier League’s highest ranked representative is Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who has scored 14 times during the Blues’ early-season title-charge and has amassed 28 points.

Remarkably, Matt Derbyshire is flying the flag for England, after scoring 16 times in 17 appearances for AC Omonia Nicosia in the Cypriot First Division. Until June, he was playing for Championship side Rotherham United, now he’s rubbing shoulders with the most prolific forwards in European football.

Liverpool misfit Iago Aspas is level with Sergio Aguero on 22 points, with Blackburn Rovers flop Anthony Modeste currently tied with Lionel Messi. Going into this campaign, I doubt either thought they would be in such esteemed company come the turn of the year.
