Brazil superstar Robinho sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual assault, star played for both Manchester City and Real Madrid

Former Manchester City and Real Madrid star Robinho will spend nine years in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault from an incident in Italy in 2013.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that the Brazilian has been sentenced after being found guilty for his action in 2013 towards an Albanian girl.

The incident is reported to have taken place on January 22nd, 2013 with the star contracted to Italian club AC Milan at the time. Robinho is reported to have been part of a group of five men during the incident.

The footballer is now 33-years-old and has slipped relatively off the radar of mainstream football for quite some time since signing for his homeland side Atletico Mineiro.

The star rose to fame in England after signing for English club Manchester City in 2008 with his arrival signalling serious intent from the club who would go on to continue their high-profile signings beyond Robinho’s tenure at the club.

The deal to bring the Brazilian to England cost the Manchester club £32.5m with the star signing from Real Madrid on a weekly contract worth £92,000 a week. (Fees per the Telegraph.)

The attacker struggled to capture the form that his enormous price-tag promised and departed the club after just two years in the north of London.
