Former Tottenham midfielder-turned-pundit Jermaine Jenas has explained why it makes sense that Chelsea are pursuing the transfer of Peter Crouch this January.
The Times recently linked the Stoke City striker with a move to Stamford Bridge, in a deal that looks baffling given the club’s status and both the age and calibre of the player involved.
While the Times claim Chelsea are chasing short-term deals due to the fact that they believe manager Antonio Conte is unlikely to stay beyond the summer, Jenas actually thinks the move might not be such a bad idea.
In fact, the former England international told BBC 5 Live that he felt it was a ‘no-brainer’ to get the veteran front-man in on a short term deal.
Jenas says that there should be little concern over Crouch’s age or playing style as it’s barely changed throughout his entire career.
Chelsea fans are unlikely to be convinced after years of getting used to their club signing some of the world’s biggest names, but watch the video below for yourself to decide.
The Times also mentioned interest in West Ham striker Andy Carroll, though he is now injured, throwing the move into doubt, according to the Telegraph.
Chelsea have already strengthened their squad this January with the signing of midfielder Ross Barkley from Everton.
