AC Milan transfer news: Boost as key target prepared to snub rival offers for Rossoneri

AC Milan lacked the quality and depth needed last season to compete on various fronts, and so Gennaro Gattuso will arguably need more reinforcements this summer.

The Rossoneri finished sixth in Serie A while falling short in the Coppa Italia final and in the Europa League, leaving them empty-handed and disappointed having failed to achieve their objectives.

Nevertheless, although it’s been a limited summer transfer window thus far with three new signings all on free transfers, the club did receive a boost after their European ban was overturned last week after an appeal was launched, as noted by Goal.com.

With that in mind, to avoid the same mistakes of last season in which Gattuso struggled to rotate and had to rely heavily on the same group of players, Milan will surely be desperate to add quality and depth before the window closes.

Alen Halilovic, Pepe Reina and Ivan Strinic have all been officially announced as new signings so far this summer, and according to Calciomercato, former Fiorentina midfielder Milan Badelj wants to join them at the San Siro and is willing to snub offers from Zenit, Lille and Lyon to do so.

It remains to be seen if he gets his wish, but in terms of adding quality and experience alongside the likes of Lucas Biglia and Manuel Locatelli in the heart of the midfield, the Croatian international is a potentially sensible addition to the squad.

Following on from his previous spell with Fiorentina, he knows the league well and could be capable of making an instant impact to provide balance alongside the younger players in the team.

Alternatives for Franck Kessie and Suso are also perhaps needed at Milan given the duo played heavy minutes last season and were rarely rested which led to inconsistency. For now though, it remains to seen if Badelj arrives to strengthen the midfield and becomes the fourth signing of the summer.
