Pepe Reina worked with new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri for three years at Napoli but has ruled himself out of joining his former boss in England.

The 35-year-old shot stopper only just joined AC Milan on a free transfer yesterday, as reported by the Sun and has been quick to distance himself from another switch this summer.

According to Football Italia – as per RMC Sport – Reina said to reporters: “Me going to Sarri? They are just rumours,”

“I have only just arrived. I want to enjoy these days with the boys and integrate with the group as quickly as possible.

“I want to give my best, my contribution and continue to improve.”

As reported by the Independent, Chelsea’s current no.1 Thibaut Courtois has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid during this transfer window and the Blues are said to be lining up any potential replacements or a back up in case the Belgian ends up staying in London.

Pepe Reina says he is not joining Chelsea

Reina made 111 appearances for Napoli in his second spell with the Italian outfit, having spent the 2013/14 on loan at the club from Liverpool. He has signed a three-year deal with Milan which should keep him at The San Siro until 2021, according to the Daily Star.

Although Reina is an experienced ‘keeper who was once regarded as a top performer in the Premier League, one imagines few Chelsea fans will shed tears over this as they surely need a player in his prime to come in now if they do lose Courtois.
