Aston Villa in transfer scrap after making €9m bid for 20-year-old defensive ace

Aston Villa are reportedly plotting a late bid to shore up their defence having made a €9m bid for Le Havre defender Harold Moukoudi.

The 20-year-old has come through the ranks at the Ligue 2 outfit and has now gone on to make over 40 appearances for the senior side while representing France from U16 to U20 level.

In turn, it would appear as though he may well have a bright future ahead of him, and Villa scouts have seemingly set their sights on him as L’Equipe report that they’ve made an offer of around €9m for the youngster.

However, with Rennes also specifically mentioned in the report as an interested party, it remains to be seen as to whether or not the Championship giants win the battle for his signature.

Villa are arguably a little light in that department as after losing John Terry at the end of last season, Steve Bruce has James Chester, Tommy Elphick and Axel Tuanzebe at his disposal to play in the centre, while Mile Jedinak has dropped back and filled in at times too.

That’s far from ideal though, and so with just a matter of days left for Championship clubs to make new signings, they could look to push through a deal for an exciting talent in Moukoudi to bolster their options in that department.

Although they suffered disappointment after being knocked out of the League Cup by Burton Albion on Tuesday night, the season has started well for Aston Villa and Bruce.

They remain unbeaten in the Championship after five games, winning two along with three draws, and so with the addition of new faces before Friday’s deadline, it could give them the boost needed to maintain their strong start and continue to push for promotion this year.
