Leeds United record-breaking deal could face government review

With the government threatening to crack down on gambling sponsorship in football, Leeds United’s contract with SBOTOP as the front-of-shirt sponsor is set to be reviewed.

Since being promoted, Leeds has switched gambling sponsorships, with 32RED being replaced by the Philippines-based company SBOTOP on the front of the team’s jersey.

Leeds signed a £6million contract with SBOTOP to serve as their primary kit sponsor back in 2020, however if the government passes legislation banning gambling sponsors, Leeds may decide to withdraw all sponsorships by 2024 or 2025.

Eight of 20 Premier League clubs have betting companies as sponsors and all face review by the government.
